The pact follows earlier arrangements announced in 2026 with AstraZeneca and Sanofi.

Editor’s Take: AI scientists capable of reasoning over the data they are provided may prove crucial in drug development.
Owkin announced a license agreement with Boehringer Ingelheim for K Pro, Owkin’s AI Scientist, along with multimodal patient data. The agreement builds upon a pilot between the companies in 2025 and aims to speed discovery in oncology and immunology.
In this phase of the Owkin–BI partnership, Owkin will license multimodal oncology data and generate new multimodal immunology data. Owkin, which positions itself as an agentic AI company, licenses, sources, and generates this data through its global patient network.
Consequently, Boehringer Ingelheim’s teams will access and analyze the Owkin data through K Pro, as a single environment for interrogation. The platform can then also run reproducible analyses, as its reasoning capabilities support human-led analysis and self-driven campaigns. These characteristics, in turn, encourage hypothesis generation, testing, and prioritization.
“This agreement between Owkin and Boehringer Ingelheim shows how cutting-edge AI has potential to enable data-driven pharmaceutical research.”
Thomas Clozel, CEO and Co-Founder, Owkin
Owkin CEO and Co-Founder Thomas Clozel commented on this new stage of his company’s partnership. He said AI scientists capable of reasoning over the data they are provided are crucial in the drug development process.
“This agreement between Owkin and Boehringer Ingelheim shows how cutting-edge AI has potential to enable data-driven pharmaceutical research,” Clozel said. “We believe the next decade of drug development will be defined by access to deep multimodal patient data.”
Previously in 2026, Owkin licensed K Pro for use by other major pharmaceutical companies. A five-year agreement with Sanofi, in June, followed an earlier three-year pact reached with AstraZeneca in May.
No length was immediately given for the agreement between Owkin and Boehringer Ingelheim.
